30/10/07 - Harrow: Least Truancy In London
Harrow experiences the lowest level of truancy among primary schoolchildren in the capital, according to new Government figures.
The borough's pupils aged between four and 11 missed just 0.30 per cent of all morning or afternoon sessions for the autumn and spring terms of the 2006/07 academic year, the Department of Children, Schools and Families statistics revealed.
The area also has the third best record in London for the percentage of secondary school registrations skipped, at 0.70.
Cllr. Christine Bednell, Portfolio Holder for Schools and Childrens Services, said: This is testimony to the hard work of our teachers, staff, parents and pupils.
Harrow has top exams results and theres a clear correlation between the level of truancy and success.
We remain committed to maintain this already high level of achievement and will carry on working with partner agencies to improve further in the future.
